Our procedures establish the requirements for the performance of wet and dry magnetic particle examination in accordance with the requirements of ASME BPVC, Section VIII and III, ASME B31.1 Power Piping, B31.3 Process Piping, and AWS D1.1.
The Procedures apply to both welds and base material.
Personnel performing Magnetic Particle Examination to this procedure shall be qualified and certified in accordance with AFCO NDE Q&C-NDE-01 written practice for qualification, certification, and training of non-destructive examination.
Magnetic particle examination provides for the detection of rounded discontinuities as well as cracks and other linear discontinuities. Sensitivity is greatest for surface defects and diminishes rapidly with depth below the surface. Magnetic particle examination is applicable to ferro-magnetic materials only.
